Description

The Elta Singleflow SSDL is a centrifugal box fan engineered for external mounting, featuring advanced backward-curved impellers and acoustic lining as standard. Available in eight standard sizes from 100mm to 500mm, it delivers air volumes up to 1.820 m³/s and static pressures up to 910 Pa in ambient temperatures up to +60°C.

Powered by an EC external rotor motor, it offers stepless speed control without tonal noise generation, with integrated commissioning control for single-speed selection and external potentiometer or building management system compatibility. The 1.2mm galvanised mild steel casing and ISO 1940-1 balanced impeller ensure robust, smooth operation, with circular duct connections standard (rectangular available on request) and a 12-month warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a box fan and when should I use one?

A box fan houses the impeller and motor inside an enclosed, usually acoustically lined casing, giving quieter operation than an open in-line fan and simple connection into duct runs. Use one where noise matters, where the fan sits near occupied rooms, or for kitchen and commercial extract systems. Our Elta box range spans small ceiling-void units up to large multi-discharge fans for commercial kitchens, offices, schools and industrial buildings.

Which box fan suits a shallow ceiling void?

The Elta Hideaway SH is designed exactly for that — a low-profile centrifugal box fan for very shallow ceiling voids, available in six sizes from 100mm to 315mm with air volumes up to 0.832 m³/s. It’s acoustically lined with Class O rated fire-resistant foam to minimise breakout noise, and its brushless EC motor gives precise speed control via potentiometer, 0-10VDC or PWM with low running costs.

What is a twin fan, and why would I specify one?

The Twinflow STDL contains two centrifugal fans in one casing with an automatic changeover panel: if the duty fan fails, the second takes over, giving built-in standby for systems that must not stop running. It comes in seven sizes from 125mm to 500mm, connects to standard circular ducting, and its EC motors provide stepless speed control via potentiometer or a building management system.

Can box fans be mounted externally?

Yes — the Singleflow SSDL and Twinflow STDL are engineered for external mounting, with 1.2mm galvanised mild steel casings, and both handle ambient temperatures up to +60°C. The larger Qube SQU has a corrosion-resistant aluminium frame with double-skinned insulated panels, and its moveable panels let you set the outlet straight-through or at 90° on site to suit the installation.

How noisy are box fans compared with inline fans?

Box fans are generally the quieter option because the casing contains the noise: the Qube SQU range uses double-skinned panels filled with 25mm fibreglass acoustic insulation, and the Singleflow, Twinflow and Hideaway ranges are acoustically lined as standard. Full sound data for every model is published in the technical datasheet on each product’s Downloads tab, so you can compare levels before specifying.
