Description

Blast Gate Damper

Also known as a shut off valve, and for a good reason. This damper is designed to give you control of your extraction system by closing off the branches not in use, and upping the power to the machines to be controlled.

The key benefit to this is avoiding the need to buy an expensive extraction unit to serve all of your equipment, when in reality, only some of the machinery will ever be in use at the same time.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a blast gate damper?

A sliding shut-off valve for extraction ductwork. The gate slides across the duct to fully open or fully close a branch, which is why it is also known as a shut-off valve. Blast gates are the standard way to control which machines are served by a dust or fume extraction system at any one time.

Why fit blast gates to an extraction system?

Closing off the branches not in use concentrates the extraction power on the machines that are running. That means you can size the extraction unit for the machines actually used simultaneously, rather than buying a much larger and more expensive unit capable of serving every drop at once. Open the gate at a machine before use and close it afterwards.

What sizes are available?

The range runs from 63mm up to 355mm diameter, including 80, 100, 125, 150, 160, 180, 200, 224, 250, 300 and 315mm — covering typical machine extraction outlets and branch duct sizes. Match the blast gate to the diameter of the branch duct it will be fitted into; if the machine outlet is a different size, use a reducer from our fittings range to make the transition.

Are blast gates suitable for balancing airflow?

They are designed primarily as open/closed shut-off devices rather than precision balancing dampers. For fine, progressive airflow adjustment in a ventilation system, a multi leaf volume control damper is the better tool. In extraction systems, though, simple open/shut control at each branch is usually exactly what is needed.

Are they held in stock?

Yes — blast gate dampers are stock items with our fastest lead time, shown on each product page, and orders over £400 excluding VAT qualify for free delivery. The product image is for illustration purposes; the item supplied may differ slightly in appearance or manufacturer, as noted on the product page.
