Description

The Circular Fire & Smoke Damper is a motorised, failsafe single-blade damper that prevents the spread of fire and smoke through circular ductwork passing through fire-rated walls and floors. Its single-blade construction offers greater free area than comparable multi-blade fire and smoke dampers, while a spring-return electric actuator holds the blade open against constant spring force and drives it closed on loss of power or on activation of the integral thermal fuse.

The damper is ES classified — a fire damper with reduced smoke leakage characteristics — tested to BS EN 1366-2 with extended field of application to BS EN 13501-3, and aerodynamically tested to BS EN 1751. Depending on the supporting construction it achieves classifications of E 120 (ho io) S, E 120 (ve io) S, E 90 (ve io) S or E 60 (ve io) S. The replaceable thermal fuse is rated at 72°C and is fitted with a green LED to indicate that power is present and the fuse is intact, plus a momentary push test switch for periodic on-site testing.

Each damper is supplied with a spring-return electric actuator in your choice of 24V or 230V (a motorised actuator is standard on this product) and an integral installation plate that acts as a fixing template and allows the damper to be fixed from one side of the fire separation, with no secondary plate or fire-rated infill required. The casing is manufactured from galvanised mild steel to BS EN 10346 (DX 51D Z275), with the casing conforming to BS EN 1506, and a 430-grade stainless steel option is available. The patented layered blade seal with a central intumescent disc minimises pressure loss when open while providing an effective seal when closed; the thermal fuse element is replaceable from outside the duct.

  • ES classified fire & smoke damper with reduced smoke leakage characteristics
  • Tested to BS EN 1366-2; extended field of application to BS EN 13501-3
  • Construction-dependent classification up to E 120 (ve io) S / E 120 (ho io) S
  • Blade leakage Class 2 to BS EN 1751; casing conforms to BS EN 1506
  • Replaceable thermal fuse rated at 72°C, with green LED status indication and integral test switch
  • Spring-return actuator: 24V or 230V, IP54 degree of protection
  • Material: galvanised mild steel (DX 51D Z275) or 430-grade stainless steel
  • Available by nominal diameter from 100mm to 315mm

Rotatable cleats: this version is supplied with the installation plate plus rotatable cleats, giving adjustable fixing positions around the damper body — useful where the surrounding structure, service runs or an awkward opening make the standard fixing pattern difficult to reach.

Frequently Asked Questions

What diameters are available?

The single-blade circular damper is available in nominal diameters of 100, 125, 150, 160, 200, 250, 300 and 315mm. For larger circular ducts we supply the multi-blade FSD-TD Type C damper, which runs from 100mm right up to 1000mm — ask our sales team if you need a size above 315mm.

Why choose a single-blade circular damper?

The single-blade construction offers greater free area than comparable multi-blade fire and smoke dampers, so it adds less resistance to the airflow when open. A patented layered blade seal with a central intumescent disc minimises pressure loss in the open position while providing an effective seal when closed. It connects directly into circular ductwork, with the casing conforming to BS EN 1506.

How does it close in a fire?

A spring-return electric actuator — supplied in your choice of 24V or 230V — holds the blade open against constant spring force and drives it closed on loss of power or when the integral thermal fuse operates at 72°C. The replaceable fuse has a green LED showing power is present and the fuse is intact, plus a momentary push-button test switch for periodic on-site testing.

What fire classification does it achieve?

The damper is ES classified — a fire damper with reduced smoke leakage characteristics — tested to BS EN 1366-2 with extended field of application to BS EN 13501-3, and aerodynamically tested to BS EN 1751. Depending on the supporting construction it achieves E 120 (ho io) S, E 120 (ve io) S, E 90 (ve io) S or E 60 (ve io) S.

How is it installed?

Each damper is supplied with an integral installation plate that acts as a fixing template and allows the damper to be fixed from one side of the fire separation, with no secondary plate or fire-rated infill required. Installation must follow the tested method for your wall or floor type, and the thermal fuse element is replaceable from outside the duct after installation.

What materials is it made from?

The casing is manufactured from galvanised mild steel to BS EN 10346 (DX 51D Z275) as standard, with a 430-grade stainless steel option for corrosive or hygiene-sensitive environments. Use the selector on the product page to switch between frame type, material, actuator voltage and diameter — every combination is an individual product with its own price.
