Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a supply valve and an extract valve?

The cone profile is designed for the direction of airflow. Supply valves are shaped to deliver air into the room in a controlled pattern, while extract valves are shaped to draw air out efficiently. Fit the type that matches the duct’s purpose — they are not interchangeable if you want the designed performance from your ventilation system.

What are the valves made of?

Galvanised steel, powder coated white — a durable, long-lasting metal valve rather than a plastic one. They suit homes, workplaces and public washrooms, providing consistent airflow with a clean, unobtrusive appearance. Sizes cover the common residential and light commercial duct diameters: 100, 125, 150, 160 and 200mm.

What does the fire rated version do?

The fire rated valves contain built-in intumescent material that expands in the heat of a fire, closing the valve to stop the spread of fire through the ventilation opening. They are fire rated for 1 hour. Use them where the valve penetrates a fire-rated ceiling or wall and the fire strategy calls for a fire-resisting terminal.

How do air valves fit into the ducting?

The valve body fits directly into circular ducting of the matching diameter — choose the valve size to match your duct. They are commonly used at the room end of extract or supply branches in bathrooms, WCs, kitchens and utility areas, where a small, adjustable circular terminal is needed.

Are the valves held in stock?

Yes — standard and fire rated valves are stock items with our fastest lead time, shown on each product page, so replacements and new installations can be supplied quickly. If you are ordering valves alongside ducting and fixings for a full installation, orders over £400 excluding VAT qualify for free delivery.
